Patricia Joanne Malay

Born November 30, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Thomas and Ethel (Sholin) O’Connell, Patricia was raised in Chicago. In October 1953, she was united in marriage to Patrick Malay who was then serving in the US Air Force. The couple traveled to his various duty assignments, among them K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base. When Patrick retired from the military, the couple settled in Gwinn. Throughout the years, Patricia enjoyed her roles of wife, mother, homemaker, and especially grandmother. In her younger years, and into her 80s, she was an active bowler. Her other hobbies and interests included watching TV game shows, watching sports, and being expert in working and solving crossword puzzles. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, while also enjoying Notre Dame football.

Survivors include her four children, Connie Lacy and Christine Malay both of Charlotte, NC, Patrick (Kathy) Malay of Gwinn, and Michael (Kathy) Malay of Negaunee; three grandchildren, Shelly (Brant) Rice of Negaunee and Danielle (Keith Bradybaugh) Malay of Ishpeming, and Megan Lacy of Charlotte, NC; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Bradybaugh and Jory Rice; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Patrick in 2003 and a daughter, Catherine Aho in 2020.

Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation services on Thursday, August 3, beginning at 11:00 am, until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Interment will be made in the Forsyth Township Cemetery in Gwinn.
