MARQUETTE, MI – Mary Boyd Mileski, age 88, of Marquette, and former Powell Township resident, entered eternal life Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility.
Born October 5, 1934, in Marquette, the daughter of Richmond Walter and Miriam Gertrude (Nathanson) Boyd, Mary was raised in Marquette and graduated from Graveraet High School, Class of 1952. On November 8, 1952, Mary was united in marriage to David Mileski at St. Michael Catholic Church in Marquette. Together, the couple made their first home in Marquette and began raising a family. David was employed as a garage foreman with the Michigan State Police and Mary, throughout the years, was employed at Tonella Rupp Furniture, the Marquette Fish Hatchery, and then for over 30 years with the Michigan Employment Security Commission. She retired in 1991.
In her younger years, Mary was actively involved at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and later, when the couple relocated to Powell Township, she joined the Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay.
In 1978, Mary and David moved to Saux Head Lake in Powell Township, converting their camp into a permanent home. For over 20 years, Mary served as organist at the Community Presbyterian Church. Additionally, Mary was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, and State Police Wives during her married years.
Survivors include her children, Susan Koehs of Marquette, James (Sandra) Mileski of Marquette, and Stephen Mileski of Arnold; her grandchildren, Nathan (Brianna) Mileski and Carey Mileski; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Mason, Zoey, Zigmund, and Zelda; and her brother, David R. (Lee Mei Leong) Boyd of Marquette.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, David in 2008.
Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Friday, July 7, beginning at 1:00 pm. The Order of Eastern Star will conduct their ritual at 2:00 pm followed by the funeral service with Pastor Sudi Layraman officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home reception room.
