MICHIGAMME, MI – George H. Kendall, Jr., age 77, of 33 Tan Rd., Michigamme, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his home, while in the loving care of his family and Upper Peninsula Home Health and Hospice.

George was born in Lawrence, KS, on November 24, 1945, a son of the late Eula Mae (Kennedy) and George Harvey Knipple, Sr. His family subsequently moved to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan where he had graduated with the Class of 1964 from Bentley High School in Livonia and attended Schoolcraft Community College. George married the former Jane Burger, on June 20, 1970, at St. Priscilla Catholic Church in Livonia. George worked in the family business from a young age and became the President at Producto Chemicals Inc. a chemical manufacturer for the auto industry, retiring in 1999 after over 30 years with the same company. In 2000, George and his wife Jane relocated to Michigamme from Highland.

George was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion, was a volunteer first responder specialist, and member of the Michigamme / Spurr Fire Dep., served as a Ski Patrol at Marquette Mountain and was a licensed private pilot since 1987 who enjoyed flying in his Cessna 172. George was an avid outdoorsman which drew him to the Upper Peninsula, enjoying hunting, especially during the fall deer season spent at deer camp in Skandia, “His Chapel in the Tree’s”. George also was a passionate fisherman, often casting a line in Lake Michigamme or other surrounding lakes. He was known as an archery marksman and once took 10th place in a national competition.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; Jane Ann (Burger) Kendall of Michigamme, daughter; Christine Aqwa of Commerce Twp., son; George Harvey Kendall, III, of Wolverine Lake, grandchildren; Kayla (Rick) Coltson, Sara (Jacob) Aqwa and Alexa (Connor) Aqwa, three great-grandchildren; Madilyn Coltson, Claire Coltson, Bryce Brown, two sisters; Janet (Jim) Lowdermilk of Naples, FL, Jean (Jim) Dome of Lewiston, brother; William K. (Lynda) Kendall of Branson, MO, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Mary Hart and Kimberly Kendall

The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Champion.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 PM with the Rev. Fr. Christian Flagstadt to officiate.
