Donna Mae Robertson

GWINN, MI – Donna Mae Robertson, age 68, of Gwinn, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Trillium Hospice House, in the care of her family and Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Donna was born August 2nd, 1954, in New Richmond, Wisconsin, a daughter of Earl and Elaine (Parnell) Hecht. She was raised in Somerset, Wisconsin, where she developed her love of nature and a passion for horses and animals. The family attended St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Somerset. Following graduation from high school, Donna attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls pursuing a Bachelors degree in Animal Science. After she graduated in 1976, she relocated to Marquette and began working at Willow Farm Boarding Stable and Riding Club. In her 45 years at Willow Farm, she cared for horses, managed barn operations, and assisted with therapeutic riding. Donna raised her beloved Quarter Horse, Hanks Taffy Miss at Willow Farm where she spent much of her life showing, jumping, and competing. Donna was also instrumental in managing and running Show U.P., an AQHA sanctioned Quarter Horse show.

Throughout her life, Donna possessed a tough and resilient character. She was determined, responsible, and above all, loving. She loved her children and especially enjoyed time spent with her grandkids. Her other interests included reading, caring for wildlife, classic television shows, and sending handwritten letters. Donna was a devout parishioner of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey.

Donna is survived by her sons, Robert (Aimee) Robertson, Jr. and Kyle (Kathy) Robertson; her four grandchildren, Claire, Robert, Juliet, and William; three siblings; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends at an informal gathering at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, July 15th, from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm.
