Richard Lorens

SKANDIA, MI – Richard W. Lorens, age 74, of Skandia, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, in the loving care of his family.

Born April 28, 1949, in Marquette, a son of Leroy and Nora (Whalen) Lorens, Rich was a lifelong Marquette area resident. He attended the local schools and was later employed as a semi-truck driver for Bunny Bread. When the bakery ceased operations, he retired after 40 years of driving. In retirement, Rich cherished the monthly gatherings with his fellow semi-drivers at Hardees.

Rich was an avid car enthusiast who enjoyed going to car shows and took pride in restoring old cars. His work can still be found on the roads as far away as Texas and around Marquette, including his beloved Oldsmobile. His car collection also included vintage pedal cars and replica diecast model cars.

A kind soul, Rich was generous with his time and always willing to lend a helping hand. He valued his family and the relationships he formed with those close to him, making sure to check in with them frequently.

Rich is survived by his wife of 30 years, Karen (Erickson) Lorens of Skandia; his daughters, Holly (Cole) Minton of Millsap, TX; and Heidi (Mark) Goldy of Billings, MT; his son, Steve Lorens of Marquette; a daughter-in-law, Terri Lorens of Marquette; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richie; a brother and a sister.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn on Saturday, June 24, beginning at 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. Andrew Plocher will officiate. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
