Penni Zoller

MARQUETTE, MI – Penni Jane Zoller, age 80, of Marquette, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at UP Health System Marquette, in the loving, comforting care of her children.

Born June 19, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a daughter of Clifford and Elizabeth (Farnam) Zoller, Jr., Penni grew up in Minneapolis along with her two sisters and brother. She attended the Colburn School and later graduated from Bloomington Senior High School in 1960. She married Thomas Stroberger and together the couple moved to his various Air Force military assignments while raising their family. In the 1970s, Penni moved to Illinois where she attended the University of Illinois with a study centered on cartography. Penni had a long career working for the University of Illinois, serving primarily as the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Music, while also serving as the editor of the University of Illinois School of Music Journal, American Music. She retired in the early 2000s. Following retirement, Penni relocated to Marquette to be closer to family. Along with the lure of Lake Superior and the fact the winters received tons of snow, made Marquette her perfect choice. In her leisure, Penni was an avid reader who especially enjoyed mysteries, spy novels, historical books, and loved to listen to Scottish music.

With her inquisitive and analytical mind, she enjoyed expanding her horizons and gaining knowledge. Penni had a caring heart and was very giving of her time and concern in helping others.

Penni is survived by her sons, Michael (Helena) Stroberger and Chris (Cheryl) Stroberger; her grandchildren, Max, Lily, and Gemma; a sister, Juli Custar; and brother, Kip Zoller.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Debbie.
