Mason M. Pearce, Sr.
Mason M. Pearce, Sr.
MARQUETTE, MI – Mason M. Pearce, Sr., age 76, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, in the loving care of his son.
Born May 20, 1947, in Marquette, the son of Robert and Cynthia (Stevens) Pearce. Mason was raised in Marquette. He graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in Wisconsin in 1966. Mason joined the Army National Guard where he served as a medic from 1969-1970. He continued his education at Northern Michigan University, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting in 1972.
Mason lived a life of great adventure. He spent many years living in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he managed Point Pleasant Resort on St. Thomas. He was a licensed US Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer holding a 100-ton Master’s License, a credential that few Captains receive. Mason was an adept sailor, routinely sailing from the Great Lakes to the Virgin Islands. Nowhere was his passion and skill more apparent than when he crossed the Atlantic Ocean in his 37-foot sailboat. Locally, Mason was an entrepreneur, owning and operating The Wright Place for over 20 years until his retirement in 2015.
A devoted son, father, brother, and uncle, he enjoyed skiing and relaxing at the family camp at Middle Island Point with family and friends.
Mason is survived by his beloved son, Mason (Senara) Pearce of Marquette; his nieces, Cynie Cory and Leslie Cory; numerous first and second cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mason was preceded in death by his sister, Karen (Jeff), and brother, Phil (Deborah).
Pursuant to the Captain’s wishes an intimate gathering will be held at a later date.
The Pearce Family extends thanks to the various care aids, med-techs, and culinary staff at Brookridge Heights for their kindness and love so freely given to Mr. Mason over the past three years.
