MaryAnn Carriere

MARQUETTE, MI – MaryAnn Carriere, 82, of Marquette, passed away Tuesday evening, June 13, 2023 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living with her loving daughter at her side.

MaryAnn was born on July 28, 1940 in Wells, MI to the late Adolph P. and Rose Delima (Gardner) Lehouillier. She was a 1958 graduate of Holy Name High School.

MaryAnn married Jude L. Carriere on July 23, 1960 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells.

MaryAnn worked as an LPN at St. Mary’s Hospital and then stayed home to raise her children. In her later years, she worked at Montgomery Wards and Shopko. MaryAnn also volunteered her time knitting many newborn hats for Marquette General Hospital.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, MaryAnn loved to swim, knit, read, play cards and bingo and go to the casino. She also loved going to her children and grandchildren’s various activities and sporting events. She loved watching golf, hockey and football and was an avid Detroit Red Wings and Lions fan.

MaryAnn was a member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church and volunteered for the parish making many funeral dishes.

MaryAnn is survived by her daughter, Ann (John) Parent of Negaunee Township; her sons, Brian (Jill) Carriere of Harvey and Gregory (Terri) Carriere of Whitelaw, WI; eight grandchildren, Jay (Andrea) Parent, Dr. Ashley (Erik Powers) Parent, Dr. John Parent, Kyle (Emily) Carriere, Andrew Carriere, Tanner Carriere, Alyssa (Richard) Anderson and Nicholas (Abby Strickland) Carriere; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sister-in-law, Delores Lehouillie; brother-in-law, Dennis Zyskowski; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, MaryAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Jude Carriere; infant son, Michael Carriere; and four brothers, Francis, Robert, Allen and Donald Lehouillier.

The Carriere family will greet relatives and friends at St. Louis the King Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 20th beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Thomas Merkel officiating. A funeral luncheon will be served in the parish hall immediately following the Mass. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in MaryAnn’s memory to the Special Olympics, Area 36, N5405 South Ferguson Rd., Skandia, MI 49885.

The Carriere family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff of Brookridge Heights Assisted Living, many of whom became MaryAnn’s very special friends. They would also like to thank the staff of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
