Betty Lou Trippe

Betty was a nurse whose care extended far beyond the ordinary, and she is remembered as a woman who could befriend all she crossed paths with.

Born and raised in the Petoskey area, Betty was beloved in the community and had many lifelong friends. She felt strongly about giving back, and volunteered at many local organizations, including Brother Dan’s Soup Kitchen, Little Traverse Conservancy, Camp Quality, as well as being at the bedside of family and friends as they passed on.

She could often be found in her garden or walking her dogs in the Conservancy, to which she donated her house and lands near the end of her life. She passed along her recipes and her love of nature, both her son and daughter carry on the family tradition of lawn-swallowing gardens, and her grandchildren grew up learning the names of the plants and critters. So much flourished around Betty and her commitment to nurture continued to the end of her life. Betty is thought of by many of those who loved her as an “angel on earth.”

She will be missed by her sons: Michael (Mary Kay) and George, daughter: Gina (Steve), grandchildren: Jason (Laurie), Corey (Heather), Aaron, Kevin, and Clara, and great- grandchildren: Hana, Juniper, Maggie, Cameron, and Norah, as well as, her sibling: Quentin (Patricia) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty will be honored at a celebration of life in the fall.
