Betsy Ann (Hemmila) Cappoferri

Betsy Cappoferri

NEGAUNEE, MI – Betsy Ann Cappoferri, 59, of Negaunee, passed away Friday, May 26th, 2023.

Betsy was born July 3, 1963 in Negaunee to William ‘Billy’ and Elizabeth ‘Betty Ann’ (Chetto) Hemmila and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1981.

Betsy was an exceptional cook, her Mostaccioli being an all-time favorite. She had a green thumb and loved to have plants in the house and flowers freshly planted outside. Her personality shined bright like the petunias she would line the driveway with. You could spot her a mile away with her silver and gold jewelry and a smile on her face. A true animal lover, Betsy had many ‘fur babies’, dogs, parrots, snakes, cats, tortoises, iguanas and even sugar gliders were just a few kinds of animals that she gave a loving home to. Her most important and proud role was being a mom to her two daughters, Brittany and Chelsea. She did anything and everything for them. Betsy showed them the power of kindness firsthand and what ‘SISU’ meant. She was one tough cookie.

Betsy loved interacting with people and more often than not strangers became friends. Over the years, you could find her working at the Ishpeming Elks, Virg’s Bootery and in most recent years, Super One Foods in Marquette.

Betsy had a heart of gold and spread kindness wherever she could. Her personality was upbeat and she had the most contagious laugh. She was such a vibrant person that will be deeply missed.

Surviving are her daughters, Brittany Cappoferri of Marquette, and Chelsea (Kamuela Paikai-Hind) Cappoferri of Oahu, Hawaii and their children, Luca and William; former husband, John Cappoferri of Negaunee; dear family friend, Stuart Ryan; her beloved pet companions; sister, Julia (Stephen Prankerd) Hemmila of The Villages, Florida; brother, William A. (Paula) Hemmila, Jr. of Negaunee Township; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents.

Memorial services for Betsy and her mother, Betty Ann Hemmila will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 8th at Bethany Lutheran Church, Negaunee, with Pastor Michael Holman officiating.

The family will greet relatives and friends for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday, and also at a luncheon immediately following services in the church fellowship hall.
