Matthew G. Wood

Matthew was born April 1st, 1967, to parents Robert and Joyce Wood in Marquette, MI.

After Matthew graduated from Marquette Senior High School in 1986, he went on to study and work in the trades. Matthew began working for U.P. Fabricating in 1998, where he continued to work until his retirement.

In 1992, Matthew’s sister, Diane introduced him to her co-worker, Anne Sedlock. The two were wed on September 10th, 1994. Matthew and Anne went on to have two children, Rachel and Jacob.

In 2021, due to his illness, Matthew retired and spent his time with his children and enjoying his free time for his hobbies. Matthew loved being outdoors and spent his free time hunting, fishing, kayaking, grilling, and taking road trips to see waterfalls with his kids. Matthew loved spending time at “Deer Camp” in Arnold, MI, which had been owned by his family since 1990.

Matthew is survived by his two children: daughter, Rachel Kilgallen (husband Trevor) and son, Jacob Wood (wife Alta); and his four older siblings: sisters, Diane (Al) DuFay and Yvonne Elkus (Chuck), and brothers, Bruce (Joyce) and Robert (Annie) Wood; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Matthew is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Al, and his wife, Anne, who passed away in 2018.

Matthew was a loving brother, husband, and father who spent his life working hard to provide for his family. Even in difficult times, Matthew had a sense of humor and was a big proponent of a classic “dad joke.” He will be greatly missed by all.

The family has opted to have a private memorial to celebrate Matthew’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Trillium Hospice House or UP Home Health & Hospice, for their kindness and great care in making Matthew comfortable during his final days.
