Longtime Newberry resident and former owner of Beaulieu Funeral Home, Charles Borromeo Beaulieu III, 85, died Thursday evening May 11th, 2023, at Newberry Assisted Living Community.
Born September 14th, 1937, in Newberry, son of the late Charles “Bud” Jr. and Frances (Tomkiel) Beaulieu, Chuck was a 1955 graduate of Newberry High School. Chuck attended St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin for two years and was a 1959 graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee receiving a degree in business administration. On July 29th, 1961, Chuck married the former Barbara Middleton, in Baraboo, Wisconsin.
On September 22nd, 1961, Chuck enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War stateside, until his honorable discharge on September 21st, 1964, attaining the rank of Specialist Fifth Class.
Following his honorable discharge, Chuck attended Milwaukee Technical College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, attaining a degree in mortuary science. On July 21st, 1967, Chuck received his State of Michigan mortuary science license, returning back to Newberry as a third generation funeral director at Beaulieu Funeral Home. In the early 1980s, Chuck became owner and continued serving the community until his stroke in February of 1997 and retired. He continued his involvement in funeral service at the state level and, in 1999, served as President of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association.
Chuck was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church where he served on the parish finance council, member of the American Legion Post #74, member of the Newberry Elks Lodge and member of the Newberry Kiwanis Club. Chuck, in addition, was a volunteer EMT for the Luce County Ambulance Corp. During the years following his retirement, Chuck traveled extensively with his wife, Barb, throughout the United States and internationally.
In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barb, on December 24th, 2013, sister; Mary (William) Mulligan and brother; Thomas (Jane) Beaulieu.
Survivors include his children; Dr. Michael (Karen) of Newberry, John (Lisa) of Steubenville, OH, Chris (Karen) of Newberry and Anne (Brian) White of Sault Ste. Marie, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law; Jim (Judy) Middleton of Waukesha, Wisconsin, sisters-in-law; Caroline Michaletz of Las Vegas, Nevada and Beth (Jim) Wearing of Clintonville, Wisconsin; stepmother-in-law; Gerri Middleton of Clintonville, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Tuesday May 23rd, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at the church, with Fr. Jacek Wtyklo and Fr. Frank Ricca concelebrating. Rite of Committal with military honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and the American Legion Post #74 will follow at Forest Home Cemetery.
