Margaret Millman

MARQUETTE, MI – Margaret Patricia Tompkins Millman, aged 74, died peacefully after a heroic struggle with Parkinson's Disease in Marquette, Michigan, on January 21st.

She is survived by her husband; Bill Millman of Gwinn, Michigan, as well as, her children; Alison Kilpatrick (Scott Hall), William Millman (Samantha), and Tom Millman (Nucci), she is also survived by two beloved grandchildren; Stephen Kilpatrick and Arya Millman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Tompkins of Negaunee, Michigan, and Patricia Leahy Tompkins of Australia.

Margaret was a prolifically talented painter and leaves behind a lifetime of beautiful canvases. She was an inspired and hard-working lover of plants as skilled with a shovel, as she was with paintbrushes, her colorful gardens bloom on as witness. Despite her otherwise tender demeanor, she was a ferocious cribbage competitor, a characteristic inherited from her parents and demonstrated relentlessly in play. She nurtured friends and family alike with warmth, and set a welcoming dinner table for all. In winter, she tended the home fire faithfully with logs carried in from her own wood shed. She was never so contented as with a good book, she read widely, a view of the lake, a comfortable chair, and a well-crafted Manhattan. She was the loving sun around which her family revolved-feeding, consoling, celebrating, guiding, and humoring with a kind, and when called for firm, hand. Her laughing eyes and gentle smile are alive yet in our hearts.

A private memorial gathering and scattering of ashes will be held at camp in July.
