Iris June Burns

BIG BAY, MI – Iris June Burns, age 86, lifelong Big Bay resident, entered eternal life Saturday, April 15th, 2023, at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming.

Iris was born February 24th, 1937, in Hardwood, a daughter of Michael and Myrtle (Sigler) McGuire. She was raised in Big Bay and graduated from Graveraet High School. In 1954, Iris was united in marriage to Forrest Alden Burns, and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Big Bay. Along with her roles of wife, mother, and homemaker, Iris also balanced her time with working as a waitress at the Northwoods Supper Club and volunteering at her church, the Community Presbyterian Church in Big Bay. She loved raising her children and working.

Survivors include her children, Leonard Charles (Jean) Burns of Iron Mountain and Michael Alden Burns of Marquette, Karen (Dan) Burns-DeForest of Big Bay; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lavonne Gasper of Marquette and Leanne Cornelia of Amasa, MI; and her aunt, Violet Kossmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Forrest; sons, Timothy and Jody Burns; and her brother, Daryl McGuire.

The family will honor her memory privately and would like to express a sincere thank you to her family, friends, caregivers of Marquette County Medical Care Facility, Lake Superior Hospice and most importantly to her sister-in-law, Carol, and her nurse, Jamie, for the wonderful care given to Iris.
