Dennis Clowers

MARQUETTE, MI – Dennis R. “Denny” Clowers, 73, of Marquette, passed away on Monday afternoon, April 17th, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

Denny was born on January 21st, 1950, in New Madrid, MO, to Verlin R. and Liddie Madean “Dean” (Russom) Clowers. He was a 1968 graduate of Southwestern High School in Flint, MI.

Out of high school, Denny joined the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed at various locations. While stationed in Hawaii, Denny married the former Mary M. Kasten on September 16th, 1976. During his 20-year Coast Guard career, they welcomed four wonderful children.

Denny and Mary relocated to the Marquette area in 1990 after his retirement from the Coast Guard to raise their children. Denny then started work for the Presque Isle Power Plant, retiring after 21 years as a heavy equipment operator. After his retirement, he worked in maintenance for Brookridge Heights Assisted Living.

Denny enjoyed spending time with family at camp and especially loved taking his boat out and going fishing with his grandsons. He was also a member of St. Peter Cathedral.

Denny is survived by his wife, Mary Clowers of Marquette; four children, Shayna (Colin Brooky) Ward of Wake Forest, NC, Casey Clowers of Minneapolis, MN, Quinn (Ryan) Johnson of Ishpeming and Dennis “Bud” Clowers of Marquette; grandsons, Elias Ward and Calvin Johnson; mother, Dean Clowers of Davison, MI; siblings, James “Jim” (Sharon) Clowers of Clio, MI and Tamara “Tammy” (Todd) Pangle of Montrose, MI; brother and sister-in-law, Timothy (Linda) Kasten of Vassar, MI and Connie (Richard) Shaw of Green Bay, WI; and several nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his father, Verlin Clowers; brother, Joseph Gregory Clowers; mother and father-in-law, Marymay and Ralph Kasten; and brother-in-law, Noel Q. Kasten.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. in the funeral home.

A time of fellowship will follow the service at the Ore Dock Brewery on Spring Street from 1 until 3 p.m.

Burial will take place Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, at 1 p.m., at Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone, MI.
