Edith Y. Toutant

Edith was born on August 15th, 1954, in Marquette, to John F. Yoakum and Udorabel “Dory” Paquin.

She was raised by her mother Dory and Walt Nutt.

Edith worked as a waitress at Wahlstrom’s in Harvey, Lynn’s Corner Cafe in Gwinn and Buck’s Restaurant in Ishpeming. She enjoyed going to the casino, camping and fishing, driving around in her car and adored all animals. Edith was an Elder of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Edith is survived by three children, Brian A. (Nikki) Horton of Marquette, Leanna Horton of West Virginia and John (Jenny Hough) Horton of Deerton; grandchildren, Tiffani (Augustine) Rosas, Brian A. (Shawna) Horton, Jr., Trey A. Horton, Robert (Jacqueline) Johnson, Jr., Kirk (Kalynn Hauler) Johnson, Alexis Johnson and Katlyn Horton; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Stuart Yoakum, Dorothy Yoakum and Walter Newton (Marilyn Hendrickson) Nutt; stepbrother, Bill Nutt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents and her much loved aunt, Shirley.

A celebration of Edith’s life will be held in the spring or summer of 2023 at one of her favorite places, the Presque Isle Pavilion, and will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Edith’s name to UPAWS, 815 S. State Hwy M553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
