Douglas Potila

ISHPEMING, MI – Douglas A. Potila, age 75, of 555 CO RD PFH, Ishpeming, passed away Friday, February 10th, 2023, while at the Michigan Veterans Home D.J. Jacobetti in Marquette.

Doug was born in Negaunee on June 23rd, 1947, a son of the late Martha (Hintsala) and Albert Potila. He grew up in National Mine and went on to serve in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to the Upper Peninsula, working in the maintenance dept. at the Taystee Bakery (Bunny Bread) in Marquette for over 20 years until its closure.

Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing, working on muscle cars and attending car shows. He collected items that had relevance to him. Above all, Doug cherished his role as grandpa.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Potila of Ishpeming, two sons – Travis Potila of Gwinn and Jason (Laura) Potila of Ishpeming, his grandchildren – Jacob Potila, Alaina Stenfors, Rebecca Potila and Cara Potila, brother – Duane Potila of Ishpeming, stepbrothers – Steve (Joan) LeClair, Tom Laitanen, stepsister – Mary Ellen (Casey) Smith, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law – Bryan and Kris Niemi, Lynn and Brad Potila, along with many nieces and nephews and numerous close friends.

He was preceded by his parents, brothers – Dale and Dennis Potila, stepbrothers – Mark LeClair, Greg, LeClair and Gary LeClair, stepsister – Carol, infant sister – Dawne Potila and two grandchildren – Taylor and Jeffrey Potila.

Per Doug’s wishes, cremation will take place and interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery in the spring.
