CRYSTAL FALLS, MI – Paul N. Price, 72, of Republic, passed away on Monday, January 9th, 2023, at his home.
Paul was born August 25th, 1950, in Chicago, IL, son of the late Leonard and Carol (Weltner) Price. He graduated from East Lansing High School in 1968 and went to Ferris State prior to transferring to Central Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Paul served as a teacher, principal and superintendent throughout his career. He started out in Michigan, followed by Colorado and back to Michigan. Paul coached several sports including but not limited to high school baseball, basketball & track. He moved to Republic, MI in 2000 and took a position as Superintendent for the Republic School District, retiring in 2011. While in Colorado he obtained his Masters in Education. Paul was a member of Delta Sigma Fraternity at Ferris State & Sigma Phi Epsilon at Central Michigan.
Paul loved sports and stayed involved as an MHSAA referee for over 50 years. He especially enjoyed attending his children & grandchildren’s sporting events. He was their #1 fan and will be missed in the gym. He truly appreciated all the friendships he made as a referee and educator. Paul cherished his annual trips to Lake Michigan Recreational Area in Free Soil, MI. He loved spending time with his Group Camping family for over 40 years. Spending time outdoors, camping and traveling to visit friends & family were some of his favorite activities. Mackinac Island held a special place in his heart, he lived there after college. Paul was the Police Chief and worked for the horse drawn carriage tours while making memories with his best friend, Bill & brother, Jon. Paul was known for his famous beef jerky recipe and brought a smile to everyone’s face when he walked in with some to share.
Paul is survived by a son, Jason (Nicki) Price of Crystal Falls; a daughter, Casey Price of Johnstown, OH; an adopted daughter, Andrea Price of Denver, CO; a brother, Jon (Sandy) Price of Holland, MI; two sisters, Karen (Tom) Roth of Grand Rapids, MI and Brenda (Tom) Prendergast of Naperville, IL; seven grandchildren, Vienna, Lyle and Lee Price and Amira, Moulay, Asiyah & Assim; several nieces and nephews; an special friend, Vicki.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 18 at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. A celebration of life will follow at the VFW in Crystal Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.
