Mary E. Brennan

MARQUETTE, MI – Mary E. Brennan, 107, of Marquette, passed away on Wednesday evening, November 30th, 2022, at Trillium House surrounded by her family and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

Mary was born on August 27th, 1915, in Negaunee, Michigan, a daughter of the late Victor and Clara (Kieren) Duvinage. She was a 1933 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School.

Mary was formerly employed at the Hotel Northland as a night auditor, for the Federal government in Washington, DC, Selective Service in Lansing and then moved to Escanaba. She retired as secretary in the records office at the Marquette Branch Prison in 1977.

In her free time, Mary enjoyed traveling the world, dining out with friends (dessert first), was a voracious reader, played Dominoes in her younger years with church friends, and spending time with her ten grandchildren. She also loved her Cocker Spaniels.

Mary was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, where she was active with their altar society. She was also a member of the Michigan Retired Employees Association.

Survivors include two sons, Ed (Mary Jean) Brennan of L’Anse, MI and Joseph “Tom” (Diane) Brennan of Marquette; nine grandchildren, Janeen (Kyle) L’Huillier of Marquette, Kathy (Kurt) Retaskie of L’Anse and Craig (Traci) Brennan of Marquette, Molly Gore, Shannon (Mike) Joachim of Abrams, WI, Michael (Miranda) Brennan of Las Vegas, NV, Brad Brennan of Iron Mountain, MI, Danielle (Tyler) Haynes of Big Rapids, MI, and Kim Brennan of Marquette; great- grandchildren; Allison, Justin, Brennan and Bryce, Alex, Macy, Lexi and Logan, Kevin and Logan, Riley, Hannah and Ella; also great- great-grandchildren, Ezra and Eli, Lilly and Brennan, Jr.

Preceding Mary in death besides her parents was an infant sister and a son, Paul Brennan.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services with a luncheon to follow in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trillium House, 1144 Northland Drive, Marquette, MI 49855 in Mary’s memory.
