Gail Mae Guizzetti

GWINN, MI – Gail Mae Guizzetti, 87, of Gwinn, passed away peacefully on December 10th, 2022, after a brief stay at Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
Gail was born in 1935, in Ishpeming, to William and Dorothy (Tolonen) Billings, the eldest of three daughters. She grew up in Ishpeming, graduating from Ishpeming High School, and went on to marry her husband of 55 years, Francis “Frank” Guizzetti. They resided in Negaunee for many years.
While living in Negaunee in the 1960’s, Gail decided to become a beautician. She became the owner and manager of her own beauty shop on Iron Street in Negaunee, which she operated for several years. She was a working business woman long before it was common for women to do so, and she was quite successful, with a large following of devoted customers. She retired after several years and sold her business, but still enjoyed giving occasional haircuts for friends and relatives.
Gail and Frank enjoyed traveling to visit relatives in California, Illinois and Minnesota, and enjoyed a few winters in Florida. They bought their summer home in Gwinn many years ago, where they held dozens of friends and family get-togethers every summer. Frequently, there were groups gathered around the Bocce Ball court where there was, on occasion, pretty stiff competition. Gail and Frank eventually made their summer home in Gwinn their permanent residence, where Gail loved gardening, picking blueberries, and visiting with the neighbors on Noren Lake. After her husband and son, Michael, passed away, she maintained her independence. Even into her 80’s, she would mow the grass, keep her flowers blooming, clean up the leaves in the fall, and shovel snow in the winter. She always managed to keep busy. Her two doggies, Buddy and Toby, were her constant companions.
Gail is survived by her daughter, Veneda “Neda” (Michael) Tasson of Roswell, GA; her younger sister, Ruth Montero of Texas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; her son, Michael Francis Guizzetti and younger sister, Marilyn.
Per Gail’s wishes, no formal services will be held. Interment will be at Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gail’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
