Elaine F. Moyle

SUPERIOR, WI – Elaine F. Moyle, age 98, longtime Ishpeming area resident, passed away on Friday, November 18th, 2022, at the Superior Rehabilitation Center/Nursing Home in Superior, WI. Her stubbornness and “better-than-a-sharp-stick -in-the-eye” attitude, got her kicked out of hospice twice in the last two years, but it was finally time to exchange her weary body for an everlasting one.

Elaine was born July 19th, 1924, in Ishpeming Township (North Lake Location) to the late Frank and Rosalie (Berry) St. Onge. She grew up in the house in which she later raised her own family.

For many years, Elaine enjoyed playing and calling Bingo for various organizations and was a former member of the Ishpeming VFW Auxiliary, Greater Ishpeming Commission on Aging, the former St. Pius X Catholic Church (where she was president of the Altar Guild), St. Joseph Catholic Church, Riverside Club, Chub Club, Curves, WBA, various card clubs, and a bell choir that she joined at the age of 95.

Elaine had a special love for children which led her and Bob to become foster parents, taking in eight children over fourteen years and adopting two. She had the gift of hospitality and was never too busy to put on a pot of coffee and assemble a quick “lunch” for anyone who dropped by. She loved making people laugh, creating plastic canvas crafts, baking delicious desserts, doing jigsaw puzzles, picking berries, knitting dishcloths to give away, being in the sunshine, and dancing. She played cards without mercy and made the best customized pasties.

Elaine is survived by four daughters – Jackie (Bruce) Pennala, Margaret Borlace, Robyn (Ken) Kinnunen, and Joleyn (Phil) McCotter, brother – Clifford St. Onge, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great- grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 60 years – Robert “Pete” Moyle, son – Joseph Moyle, brother – Earl St. Onge, sisters – Clara Ingram, Dorothy St. Onge, Ruth Maki, Mae Kamin, and Rose Marie Karbum, 2 grandsons – David and Gary Borlace, 2 great- grandchildren – Chelsea Coron and Joey Moyle and son-in-law – Ernie Borlace.

A celebration of life service for Elaine will be held in the summer of 2023. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Superior Rehab, who loved and laughed with “Cookie” over the last 6 years (especially Angala), as well as, Essentia Hospice who guided us through her last days (especially Jeanie).
