Donald Herbert Pearce
MARQUETTE, MI – September 11th, 1928 – November 25th, 2022.
Donald was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to Clarksburg at a young age. He was the son of Sam and Margaret Pearce. Donald was always a very hard worker in whatever he was doing at the time. He worked as a logger with his brother Bob, he owned two restaurants, one in Amasa and the other in Clarksburg. He also worked at the IGA in Negaunee in the bakery and butchery departments. Making pasties and apple pies was his passion. While in Florida, he made pasties for his neighbors and friends and while living in Austin he made apple pies to share with friends.
Before retiring, Donald worked for the Nice School District as a custodian and bus driver.
Driving the teams to all of their sporting events made him very happy as he was an avid sports fan; it did not matter which sport, Donald liked them all.
The last game he watched was the Lions game on Thanksgiving Day. He never gave up on the Lions or the Tigers.
Donald lived in Clarksburg and Marquette. After retiring, he lived in Florida. In 2009 Donald moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to his daughter.
The U.P. was always his home base and he loved it dearly. He would drive back and forth from Florida to Michigan every year, stopping at all of the state fairs to see horse pulling contests. Donald’s one wish was to go back to the U.P. and attend a horse pulling event.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Sam and Margaret Pearce, brother; Bob, sister; Bella (Raymond) Hill, and wives; Violet (Johnson) and Vivian (Moilanen).
He is survived by his daughter; Susan Pearce, granddaughter; Ciara Pearce and sister-in-law; Karen (Rick) Steans and nieces and nephews.
The celebration of life will take place in June. Koskey Funeral Home of Negaunee is assisting the family with arrangements.
