Thomas ‘Tom’ Alan Brown

KINGSLEY, MI — (August 19th, 1953 – May 13th, 2022)

Thomas “Tom” Alan Brown, 68, of Kingsley, Michigan, passed away in the early morning of May 13th, 2022.

He was born on August 19th, 1953, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Jack and Marjorie (Livingston) Brown. He lived in Little Lake, Michigan from 1968 – 1979, graduating from Gwinn High School in 1971. Tom went to Northern Michigan University and Michigan Technological University, graduating in 1979 with a degree in Forestry. He worked for a few years in Alaska and the Detroit area before settling in Traverse City in 1988.

Tom was a man of deep faith and conviction. He knew a great deal about God’s word and was always happy to share some of its wisdom. He lived according to the Word as well, always willing to own up to his mistakes and having the courage to hold others accountable, too. He was a skilled handyman, able to fix anything in or around a house, and always loved the opportunity to teach someone else how to do the same. He was also a lover of the great outdoors, taking hikes and hunting to better enjoy God’s creation. Some of the best memories of him were formed at bonfires on the beach of Lake Michigan with friends and family.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Jack Brown; and his sister, Donna Brown.

Tom is survived by his wife, Carlene (Young) Brown; his mother, Marjorie (Livingston) Brown of Marquette; his sisters, Annette Brown of Marquette and Sharon (John) Shaw of Nashville; his brother, Ray (Betsy) Brown of Gwinn; his children, Christine (Derek) Hobbs, Justin (Brooklynn) Brown, and Nathan Brown; and his granddaughter, Holly Brown.

A memorial service was held at Bible Baptist Church in Traverse City on Tuesday, Mary 17th, 2022. Memorial donations may be made to the Upper Peninsula Bible Camp and the Benevolent Fund at Bible Baptist Church.
