Craig M. Karvonen
DEERTON, MI – Craig M. Karvonen, age 69, of Deerton, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, July 14th, 2022.
He was born on December 4th, 1952, in Port Huron, MI, to the late Otto and Wanda (LaBodie) Karvonen. Craig grew up in Port Huron but spent many summers and deer seasons at his family’s property in Deerton. He married, Deborah Elliott, and together they raised their three children in Smiths Creek, MI.
Craig worked as a roofer along side with his father-in-law and then with Mike Hayes Roofing for many years. Craig moved to the U.P., in 2003. He enjoyed working in his garden and cooking his delicious chili, pepper steak, and goulash. Craig was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman.
He is survived by children – Melissa Karvonen of Port Huron, Angela “Angie” (Jason) Iles of Grovetown, GA, and Craig W. Karvonen of Port Huron; grandchildren – Alyssa (Dave) Dandron, Aaliyah Meadows, Jaron and Jensen Iles, Mikayla (Jared) Smith, and Kaylee, Hunter, Olivia and Eliot Karvonen; great-grandchildren – Aniyah, Mason, Karson, and Nalani; siblings – Curtis (Jaye) Karvonen, Kim Karvonen, and Kris Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents – Otto and Wanda and mother to his children – Debi Kerr.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising, MI, from 11:00 a.m., until 1:00 p.m. Craig’s service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Deerton Cemetery.
