Teri Burnis
MARQUETTE, MI – Teri Lee Burnis, daughter of the late Roland Burnis and Elizabeth Henrichsen, born in Manistique, Michigan, on September 18th, 1958. She attended public high school in Manistique.
She married Tom James Burns, on November 21st, 1985, who was an active duty Air Force mechanic. They had two children together, Laurel Elizabeth Burns and Tommy Wayne Burns. Throughout her husband’s stint in the Air Force they had moved to many different bases starting with Homestead Air Force Base (AFB) in Florida, K.I. Sawyer in Michigan, Minot AFB in North Dakota, Eielson AFB in Alaska, and lastly Grand Forks AFB in North Dakota. While Teri was at different AFBs she selflessly dedicated her time facilitating daycare services, volunteering at local schools, and taking care of her own two children.
Once both her and her husband retired they decided to divorce, she carried out her life close to her hometown in Marquette, Michigan, where she became the most outstanding grandmother to her two grandchildren, Maxton David Burns and Avery Orion Burns.
Teri enjoyed horseback riding, exploring the nature surrounding the different states she lived in, cooking, and volunteering her time to help others and the community. She passed away on Easter Sunday, April 17th, 2022, of aortic dissection.
She is survived by her two children and two grandchildren, Laurel, Tommy, Maxton, and Avery Burns; her sister, Chris (Jack Heidtman) Burnis; and her mother, Beth (Junior) Aldrich.
She was preceded in death by her brother, David Burnis.
A Celebration of Teri’s Life will be held on Saturday, June 11th, 2022, from 10 am to 12 noon, at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
