Theodore (Ted) Joseph Thomas

CHICAGO, IL – Theodore (Ted) Joseph Thomas, age 69, of Marquette, walked into eternal life at his home.

Ted was born January 1st, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois, to Robert and Florence (Steves) Thomas. The family moved to Ironwood before settling in Marquette where Ted met his future wife Janet Myers.

Ted was a proud member of Boilermakers Local 169 and card holding member of the Red Cliff Band of Chippewa Indians (Wisconsin). His stepfather, Chester Boyd of Alpena, Michigan, brought Ted into the profession where he remained a lifelong boilermaker working all over Michigan until he retired. Ted also had a lifelong passion playing the drums for several rock bands at local events both throughout the U.P. and downstate (Alpena area). Ted’s favorite hobby was fishing, especially ice fishing, and he was an excellent cook, he loved cooking for others. He played cribbage league for many years.

He moved in with his sister; Cindy Fassbender after her husband died and was a great source of comfort. He helped Cindy take care of her live-in special needs grandson; Donald, cooking for both and entertaining Donald.

Ted is survived by his three children; Eric Thomas of Marquette, Jeffrey (Alison) Thomas of Portage, Michigan, and Anastacia (Christian) Kolp East Jordan, Michigan, grandchildren; Callie Thomas, Hallie Thomas, Evan Thomas, Connor Thomas, Marissa Kolp, and two sisters; Roberta (William) Smigelski of Presque Isle, Charlene (Doug) Thennes, along with a niece and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; Robert Thomas, his mother; Florence (Steves), stepfather; Chester Boyd, his brother-in-law; Bub, his sister; Cynthia and her husband; Daniel Fassbender, Sr.

Ted will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Ted’s family will be holding a private service and remembrance.
