Ramona May nee Baker (Goings/Maddox) Thomas

FORT WAYNE, IN / MUNISING, MI – On April 14th, 2022, Ramona went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, at the Five Star Senior Living complex in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Ramona was born on December 13th, 1930, to Carl and Pearl (Kelley) Baker in Mancelona, Michigan. She married Fred E. Goings Sr. on October 28th, 1947, and together they raised seven children on St. Martin’s Hill in Munising, Michigan, until Fred’s death in 1966.

On April 26th, 1969, Ramona married, Charles Maddox, Sr., with whom she enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, and traveling until Charles’s death in 1982.

On April 10th, 1993, Ramona married, Charles “Tom” Thomas, of Enterprise Alabama. Ramona and Tom enjoyed the retired country life in Coffee Springs, Alabama until Tom’s passing in April 2013.

Early on in her life, Ramona accepted Jesus as her savior, working and living in the belief that He had plans for her. She was active in the Pilgrim Holiness church and Wesleyan church while living in Munising, and many other churches in the various locations that she called home.

As an occupation, Ramona was a Nurse’s Aide, which allowed her to bring care and comfort to many people in various stages of their lives. She loved to travel and was constantly taking pictures of people and places that she visited. Prior to experiencing a decline in health, Ramona enjoyed fishing, traveling, church activity and spending time with her family.

Ramona is survived by Jake, her golden retriever, her sister – Mabel (Dennis) Callen and sisters-in-law – Patricia Baker of Rockford, MI, and Kathy Baker of Baldwin, MI. Ramona is also survived by her children – Delores “Dottie” (Ken) Snyder, Mary Alice Goings, Pearl “Elaine” (Rick) Jacks, all of Columbus, OH; Paul (Catherine) Goings of Fort Wayne, IN, Stephen (Starla) Goings of Munising, MI, and Fred “Ed” (Julie) Goings of Shingleton, MI. She is also survived by grandchildren – Kenneth (Danetta) Snyder, Brian (Terri) Snyder, Kristi (Scott) Malott, Craig Snyder, Jennifer (Chris) Snabrey, Kari (Todd) Zerman, Paul Goings II, Allison (Steve) Wirth, Stephanie Goings, Nicholas Goings, Jaris (Valerie) Goings, Erin (Mike) Michelson, Brandon (Stacy) Goings, Ryan Goings, special friend and caretaker – Connie Curtis of Ft Wayne, IN, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers – Robert, Roger, Neil, Laverne, Glenn, Fred, and Leroy, sisters – Louise and Martha, and by her daughter – Jo Ann Marie Brantley.

Services will be held at the Munising Wesleyan Church (N6310 Knox Street, Munising, MI 49862) on Thursday, April 28th, 2022. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon, until 1:00 p.m. and Pastor James Petersen will officiate Ramona’s funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising, MI.

The family would like to thank Five Star Senior living and Transitions Hospice of Ft Wayne, IN, for their excellent care and comfort for Ramona over the last year of her life.
