Merton Terry Holman

HUMBOLDT TOWNSHIP, MI – Merton Terry Holman, age 75, of Humboldt Township, passed away Sunday, April 24th, 2022, at home, in the loving, comforting care of his family and caregivers of UP Home Health and Hospice. Merton passed on the South Shore of Helen Lake at his home in the woods.

Born August 7th, 1946, in Ishpeming, a son of Merton and Jeanette (DuShane) Holman, Merton was raised in Negaunee where he graduated from the Negaunee High School, Class of 1965. He began employment with the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, first at the Mather B Mine and later at the Tilden Mine. Throughout the years, he did construction jobs on the side. He was retired from CCI. In 1965, while working at the mine, he purchased his property on Helen Lake, where over the years he built the family camp with the help of his children and family. Merton was an avid hunter, skilled in both the use of bow and rifle. He loved spending time with the grandchildren, teaching them about the things he enjoyed and valued. He often took the grandkids strawberry picking and was involved in scouting. One of his special leisure time pleasures was his sauna. Merton was an active member of the Steelworkers Union.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl (Weston) Holman; daughter, April (Johnny) Holman Ombrello and their sons, Charles and Weston of Brighton, MI; daughter, Kathy Wilcoxen and sons Connor and Andrew of Littleton, CO; son, Dave (Cassie) Holman and their daughter, Brooke of Ypsilanti, MI.

Friends may call at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Friday, April 29th, beginning at 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:30 pm.
