Roy Thurston

Roy was born March 6th, 1949, in Ishpeming, to Roy and Betty (Wilson) Thurston. He grew up in Negaunee and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1967. He continued his education at Michigan State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Labor Relations. Roymarried Josephine (Aho) Thurston and they had two sons, Bradley and Andrew. Later in life he found the love of his life, Doreen, and two step-children, Michael and Nicole.

In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Fox News, cooking, remodeling homes, having a beer at Jasper Ridge Brewery, and playing pinnacle. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis with his kids, going to hunting camp, fishing, and watching his boys grow up playing basketball and football.

Surviving are his loving wife, Doreen (Waatti) Thurston; two sons, Bradley Thurston of North Bend, OR, and Andrew Thurston of Appleton, WI; his two stepchildren, Michael Willis of Marquette and Nicole Willis of Chicago and two grandchildren, Lydia and Victor. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honoring Roy’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery.
