Sylvia O. Krieg

GWINN, MI – Sylvia O. Krieg, 89, of 1396 W. Little Shag Lake Road, passed away at her home, on Sunday, January 16th, 2022, surrounded by her family and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Sylvia was born October 30th, 1932, in Ishpeming, MI, to the late Charles and Irma (Lukkarinen) Ollila. She graduated from Ishpeming High School and attended the nursing school at Northern Michigan University.

Sylvia lived in Ishpeming, Marquette and Gwinn and worked at Bell Memorial Hospital as a LPN and the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans. She loved to go shopping, going on fall trips to the Copper Country and spending time at camp. When Sylvia and her husband, Dan, retired they moved to the house that they had built on the lake in Gwinn.

Sylvia was a long-time member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marquette and enjoyed the circle meetings with her friends. She also loved long walks and walking in the rain.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Daniel Krieg, who she married in September of 1953; her four sons, Daniel C. (Mindy) Krieg, Tom Krieg, Jim (Liz) Krieg and Dave Krieg; grandchildren, Stacy, Sara, Danny, Kalene, Katrina, Loni and Chelsea; great-grandchildren, Max, Sapphire, Kaylee, Danika, Harley, Izzy, Lily and Alexis.

Besides her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her son, John Krieg; great-grandson, Ricky Fischer and her two brothers, Jim and Dave Ollila.

A special thank you to all of the nurses, aides and social worker at U.P. Home Health and Hospice. There truly are angels by our side.

A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held in the spring of this year.
