Melita M. Aho

ISHPEMING, MI – Melita M. Aho, age 81, lifetime Ishpeming resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 25th, 2022, at Marquette County Medical Care Facility, while under the care of Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice.

Melita was born in Ishpeming, on February 9th, 1940, a daughter of the late Carl and Martha (Larson) Aho. Melita attended the National Mine School. Melita worked at the Mather Inn in Ishpeming for over 30 years until its closure.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was very active in visiting the sick at local nursing homes. She was awarded several awards for community service including a lifetime achievement award. Melita enjoyed being with her family at camp on the Dead River Basin, attending the Negaunee City Band Concerts and the Negaunee Male Chorus. She loved watching parades, especially those with the Blue Notes. She loved dogs, cats and working her jigsaw puzzles.

Melita is survived by a sister and brother-in-law; Carol and Robert Carlson of Negaunee; three nephews and 5 nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister; Sheila Niemi, and brother-in-law; Werner Niemi.

Per Melita’s wishes cremation will take place, with arrangements for services to be announced in the spring. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
