Mike Ternus

MARQUETTE – Mike (Michael) Ternus passed into peace on November 29th, 2021, at age 71, in Marquette, Michigan, following a sudden illness.

Mike was born in Chicago, IL, to Patricia Green Ternus and Harold C. Ternus, on September 30th, 1950. Mike was the eldest child, graduated from Bishop Baraga High School in 1969 and was very active in sports.

He Graduated in 1974 from Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was very active in the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity in college, making life long friends and attending several reunions. He was employed by the Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Michigan as a manager and agent; he retired after 38 years of continuous service. He married Lorna Volkema in November 1987. They were both very active in their churches. Mike volunteered as a Gideon for 12 years. He lived an active life enjoying the outdoors in the Marquette area. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, golfing and games. He has special memories every year of deer hunting at his best friend, Dan Veeser’s, deer camp. He was also and avid alpine skier since childhood and a member of the Varsity Club at Marquette Mountain.

Mike is preceded in death by his father, Harold C. Ternus, mother, Patricia Ternus, sister, Joan Ternus Pentacost and a brother-in-law, Gordon Stobbelaar.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Lorna Ternus, sister, Ann Ternus Stobbelaar, sister, Jane Ternus, daughter, Jody Ternus Hinman and husband, Travis Hinman, son, Scott Ternus and wife, Kimberly Ternus, brother-in-law, Jerry Pentacost and stepsons, Jeffrey and Timothy Prisk, also surviving are 2 grandchildren and 3 stepgrandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
