ISHPEMING, MI – Evelyn A. Chynoweth, age 89, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.
Evelyn was born in Republic, Michigan, on June 4th, 1932, a daughter of the late Flora (Kallatsa) and Daniel Arpiainen. Evelyn will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and great homemaker and along with her second husband, Henry, helped the handicapped in the area. She loved fishing, hunting, watching the Green Bay Packers, rummage and garage sales, going on rides with her family, along with rides on the Marquette Transit Authority Buses.
Evelyn is survived by three sons – Dennis (Blanche) Champion of Ishpeming; CW5 retired Doug (Lahna) Champion of Maryland; Michael (Minda) Verville of the Philippines; stepson, David Champion and family of Negaunee; son-in-law, Donald Salo of Clarksburg Loc.; 5 grandchildren – David (Rachel) Champion, Derrick (Emily) Champion, Billy Salo, Danny Salo and Shawn Salo; 4 great grandchildren – Aaron Champion, Daniel Champion, Sarah Champion, and Ethan Salo, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Flora Arpiainen, first husband, David Champion, second husband, Henry Chynoweth, daughter, Phyllis Salo, infant daughter Janet Champion; 5 brothers – Art, Norman, Ray, Carl and Willis Arpiainen; 5 sisters – Violet Brewster, Helen Tammelin, Elsie Bingham, Martha Pokkela and Eva Arpiainen; stepdaughter-in-law, Sheila Champion; and special friends – Betty Rosten, Arlene Patrick, Rhea Kippola.
A private graveside service will be held on her birthday, Saturday, June 4th, 2022, at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans, 325 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855, in Evelyn’s memory.
