Dale Johnson

NEGAUNEE, MI – Dale William ‘Doc’ Johnson, 65, of 153 Sunset Drive, Negaunee, passed away unexpectedly early Monday evening, November 22nd, 2021, at home.

Dale was born March 2nd, 1956, in Ishpeming, to Robert Allen and Carol Ruth (Walimaa) Johnson and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1974. He was united in marriage to Marlene Bergman, on August 14th, 1976, at Mitchell United Methodist Church, in Negaunee.

Dale was employed by Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 44 years, retiring from the Tilden Mine last December, as a departmental maintenance trainer. He served as an EMT, while working at the Tilden and was an active member of USW Local Union 4974, where he served as a union representative.

Dale was a devout member of Marquette Hope UMC Negaunee Mitchell Campus where he served on various committees. He also belonged to the Negaunee Eagles Club and was a former member of the Negaunee Male Chorus.

Dale was an avid Green Bay Packers fan through thick and thin. He enjoyed building and collecting model trains, listening to music and assisting Ray in the sound tent during the Marquette Food Fest, loved Christmas and often helped Santa during the holidays. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

Surviving are his father, Robert Johnson of Negaunee; loving wife of 45 years, Marlene; daughter, Dawn (Mark) Evans of Negaunee; son, Brandin (Jennie) Johnson of Negaunee; four grandchildren: Jarin, Brady, Claire and Aiden; brothers: Kevin (Diane) and Kyle (Elizabeth) Johnson, both of Negaunee; sister, Sherry (Richard) Dahlin of Marquette; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his Mother, Carol, on July 30th earlier this year.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 26th, at Marquette Hope UMC Negaunee Mitchell Campus, with Rev. Kristi Hintz officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm, at the church on Friday, and also at a dessert luncheon in the church hall immediately following. Dale’s family encourages Packer apparel be worn!
