Susan Pelkola

GWINN, MI – Susan Mariellen Pelkola, 68, of N. Ash St., Gwinn, passed away Sunday morning, October 24th, 2021, at her home.

Susan was born June 13th, 1953 to Theodore and Lenore (Pilon) Soyring and graduated from Gwinn High School, Class of 1971. She was united in marriage to Michael Robert Pelkola, on August 16th, 1975 and together they raised their two daughters in Gwinn.

Susan was employed with Gwinn Area Community Schools. She began her career as a lunch-time supervisor, worked as a custodian and eventually retired in 2015, as a bus driver.

Susan was a talented with crocheting and knitting. She belonged to the Knotty Knitters of Marquette who heavily contributed to Wool-Aid worldwide. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Susan loved horses and raised them since she was young. She will be dearly missed by her 32-year-old Palomino horse, ‘Colorado,’ as well as, her six-month-old Shih Tzu, ‘Scooter’. Most of all, she loved spending time with her beloved family.

Surviving are her husband of 46 years, Michael; two daughters: Kelly Sue (Mark) Rankin and Kerry Ann Pelkola, both of Gwinn; grandson, Hunter Pelkola; two brothers: Glenn (Patsy) Soyring of Gwinn and Alan (Cindy) Soyring of McFarland; sister, Laverne White of Little Lake; four brothers-in-law: David (Judy), Rodney (Denise), Kevin (Susie) and Danny (Dana) Pelkola; sister-in-law, Debra (Jeff) Deering; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ivan Soyring; and brother-in-law, Gary White.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, on Friday, October 29th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn with Rev. Jack Busche officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:30 pm until the time of services at 3:00 pm at the church on Friday.
