Ethel E. Valenzio

REPUBLIC, MI – Ethel E. Valenzio, age 87, longtime resident of Republic, passed away on Thursday October 14th, 2021, at the Marquette County Medial Care Facility, while in the loving care of her family, nursing home staff, and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Ethel was born in Republic, on January 7th, 1934, daughter of the late Theodore and Sanna (Risku) Skogman. She was a graduate of Republic High School. Ethel worked at numerous restaurants as a waitress, and owned and operated the Washing Well Laundromat in Republic. She also worked for many years as an Aide at the Mather Nursing Home, as well as an EMT for Republic Township.

Ethel loved community service and volunteerism. She was active with the Republic Historical Society, an excellent cook, a “Pasty Expert”, a connoisseur of prune tarts, and enjoyed knitting, and needlepoint. Ethel was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, and Church Maintenance.

Ethel is survived by 2 sons- Paul (Leilani) Valenzio, Allen (Mary Kay) Valenzio, brother- Euren Skogman, sister-in-law- Esther Hodge, 3 grandchildren- Brandon (Jeremy Noss) Valenzio, Lyndee (Roanery) Mota, Lacy (Ricky) Tijerina, great-grandson- Eric Gerou, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband- Donald Valenzio, in 1995, son- James Valenzio, 3 sisters- Elvi Johnson, Edith Pearce, Elsie Stordahl, and 6 brothers- Edgar, Elhart, Edmund, Elwood, Ernest, and Elmer Skogman.

Ethel’s family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00am until 1:00pm, on Friday, October 22nd, 2021, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm with Rev. Alex Ross officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Interment will take place in the Republic Township Cemetery.

Ethel’s family would like to extend a special thank you, to the staff at the Marquette County Medical Care Facility and UP Home Health and Hospice, for the excellent care they gave to Ethel.
