Robert Mathew Keto

SKANDIA, MI – Robert Mathew “Bob” Keto, age 66, of Skandia, passed away Saturday, August 28th, at home, peacefully in his sleep, following a lengthy illness.

Bob was born on July 8, 1955, in Ishpeming, to Gladys and Edward Keto. He had the pleasure of attending several high schools due to his father’s employment; in Round Lake, IL, Rudyard High School, Sparta High, WI, and Cedarville, MI before he graduated from Sault Area High School, in 1973. In July 1976, he married his wife of 45 years, Beverly Crebo and started a family. After graduation Bob started his career at the Republic Mine later working both at the Tilden and Empire Mine. While working at the Empire Mine he was very instrumental in working with the engineers to set up the Flux Pellet System. He then moved on to the pit and spent years as a loader operator which his fellow co-workers always appreciated his gentle touch of loading the trucks. He retired in 2012 due to health issues.

In his younger years he spent many summers on the Pokela farm in Traunik with his brothers and cousins, giving his Uncle Urho and Great- Uncle Peter Hogan a helping hand at farming with their guiding skills.

Bob was a very happy, friendly, outgoing person who loved the company of his family, friends and meeting new people. He was a good listener and was always willing to take people under his wing and give them a place to stay which got him the name “Dad” by many. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, boating with his family and four wheeling, and snowmobiling with his brothers. He enjoyed sitting around a camp fire and was always up for a good debate arguing politics (not sure who would win). He loved his grandchildren and loved the time he spent with them.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys Keto; wife, Beverly; his daughter, Tina (Andy) Mihaloew; sons, Adam (Marie) Keto and Mathew Keto (Nicole); brother, Larry (Marilyn) Keto; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Alan) Wirtanen, Cindy Teeple; grandchildren, Leiland Keto, Peightyn Keto, Rylei and Caden Aho, Isabella Mihaloew and Camble Johnson; nieces and nephews, Jamie (Todd) Durand, Carrie Kalcich, Lori Keto, Joshua and Justin Piippo, Alicia (Matt) First; special family friend, Lee Madosh.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward; brother, Lance; brother-in-law, Keith Crebo, Jr., who Bob always considered as a little brother; his in-laws, Keith and Gloria Crebo, Sr.

Bob, we will all miss your contagious smile, and how much joy you always brought to others.

There will be a private family service.
