MARQUETTE, MI – Mary Martha Malloy, age 75, of Marquette, entered eternal life Thursday, September 2, 2021, at UP Health System-Marquette.
Born February 20, 1946, in Marquette, a daughter of Leonard R. and Kathryn A. (Boyd) Shimon, Mary was raised in Marquette and graduated from Graveraet High School, in 1964. On April 13, 1963, Mary was united in marriage to Michael Hugh Malloy, and together the couple established a home where they raised their family. Mary was employed for a couple of years with Our Own Bakery (Bunny Bread) and later as a switchboard operator with the Marquette Public Schools in Central Administration. She also taught Tiny Tot Swimming at the Northern Michigan University pool. For three years, Mary was then employed as a field secretary for Leitz-Daily Brain for the Marquette Board of Light and Power during the construction of the Shiras III Power Plant. Her last employment, in 1986, was with as a color and design coordinator of floor coverings and tile, prior to her retirement. Mary enjoyed volunteering with teaching classes at Bishop Baraga, serving as a March of Dimes Mother, working with Head Start, Census Bureau volunteer, and serving as a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and the Order of Eastern Star, and, in her leisure, doing arts and crafts, sewing, spending long summer swims in her beloved Lake Superior, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and following their activities. If you ask anyone who really knew her, they would say she had a song or story for any occasion that would bring laughter and smiles. She will be missed by many and loved by all. Survivors include her husband, Michael Malloy; her children, Patricia (Kathryn Williams of Pulaski, VA, Deborah Sue Epper of Marquette (twin), Daniel Clyde (Sally) Malloy of Greenfield, MA (twin), and Fredrick Richmond (Ammanda) Malloy of Palmer; her grandchildren, Chelsey Bedaw, Ryan Daust, Kevin (Sarah) Epper, Emily Epper (Kyle Gregory), Steven (Shontelle) Epper, Amanda (Peter) Sutherland, Jessica (Bailey) Saunders, and Michael Malloy; a great-grandchild, Nikola Burges, Erik Epper, Hunter Epper, Annablle Saunders, Vincent Saunders, Isabella Epper, Sophia Epper; brothers, Thomas Shimon of FL, Gerald Shimon of Flint, and Michael (Patricia) Shimon of Marquette; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Shimon of Marquette; many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Nancy Monahan. The family will receive relatives and friends at Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services on Saturday, September 11, beginning at 5:30 pm until the time of service at 6:30 pm. Rev.
