ISHPEMING, MI – Joseph J. Willey, age 69, formerly of 111 Bluff St., Ishpeming, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Mission Point Nursing & Physical Rehabilitation Center, of Ishpeming, while in the loving care of his family, staff members and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.

Joe was born in Ishpeming on November 25, 1951, a son of the late Florence M. (Pleau) and James M. Willey. He attended the Ishpeming High School. He worked at the Willey’s Tire Shop in Ishpeming as a laborer for several years; he had also been employed at Mid-Michigan Dairy Co-op; Challenge Inc., in Walker, MI; and Pop’s Restaurant. Joe was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post #179, in Grandville, MI.

Joseph is survived by two brothers – Thomas (Charleen) Willey of Ishpeming, MI; William (Cathy) Willey of Wyoming, MI; sister – Patricia Biermaker of Hart, MI; several nieces and nephews – Tyler Willey, Bailey Willey, Connie Willey, Heather Willey, Mark Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Stephanie Willey, Anthony Willey and William K. Willey, great-niece – Charley Willey-Anderson, great- nephew – Dominic Willey, along with many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother – Robert Willey.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 11:00am, on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee, where a memorial service will be held at 11:00am with Rev. Christopher Hintz to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Willey, Sr., Scott Willey, Jr., Marcus Willey, Daniel Willey, Sr., Louis Willey, and Clarence “Tabby” Willey.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Mission Point, Dr. Kroll; Marquette Dialysis Center; and the oncology staff at UP Health System – Marquette for their compassionate care.
