Christine L. Wiik

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI – Christine Lynne Wiik, 73, of Midway Drive, Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, September 10, 2021, at the Trillium House, Marquette, under the care of her loving family, Trillium House staff, and UP Home Health & Hospice. Christine was born April 4, 1948, in Conneaut, Ohio, to Harold and Carol (Crosby) Stockholm. She spent her early years travelling with her family throughout the region while her father mapped the depths of the Great Lakes with the Army Corps of Engineers. Christine spent her elementary school years in Manistique, later moving to Gladstone where she graduated from Gladstone High School, Class of 1966, and attended Bay de Noc College. In 1968, she married Roger Sager, and together they raised two daughters, Rebecca and Melinda, while residing in Negaunee Township. In 1988, Christine was remarried to David Wiik.

Christine began sewing at an early age and was making her own clothing by the time she was in seventh grade. Over the years, she was active in 4-H, and employed by several sewing-related businesses in the area, including the H.W. Gossard Company, Joann Fabrics and Ben Franklin. In the early 1990s, she opened The Viking Sewing Village on North Third Street, Marquette, which she operated for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2019. She was also a lifelong member of the Marquette County Quilters Association. In her spare time, Christine enjoyed knitting, sewing for herself and her family, and helping to create the most amazing quilts for her friends and customers, as well as local causes including Bay Cliff Health Camp, and The Trillium House. She was an artist, innovator, mentor, and friend to countless quilters and sewing enthusiasts around the world. She loved to teach, share, and learn new skills that enabled her to master her craft and pass that knowledge on to others. Christine is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Luigi) Torretti of Namur, Quebec and Melinda Sager of Marquette; as well as, three grandchildren: Annunzio, Giancarlo and Lidia Torretti.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Wiik on March 17, 2020; and an older brother, Dwight Stockholm, who served with the U.S. Marines and gave his life in Vietnam.

Honoring Christine’s wishes, a celebration of her life, along with her husband David’s, will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Koskey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed in Christine’s memory to the Trillium House, 1144 Northland Dr., Marquette, MI 49855.
