Carol Ruth Johnson

NEGAUNEE, MI – Carol Ruth Johnson, 86, of Sunset Drive, Negaunee, passed away Friday evening, July 30, 2021, at The Trillium House, in Marquette, while in the loving care of her loving family and UP Home Health and Hospice.

Carol was born April 28, 1935, in Ishpeming, to George and Ruth (Hampton) Walimaa and graduated from Negaunee High School, Class of 1954. She married, Robert Johnson, on January 8, 1955, and together they raised their 4 children.

She continued her education at St. Luke’s, earning her degree as a RN in 1969. Carol was a Registered Nurse for numerous years at Marquette General Hospital.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Marquette Hope Mitchell Methodist Church, Negaunee, and was a former member of the Negaunee Bowling League.

She was an avid crafter; enjoying ceramics, sewing, knitting and crocheting, and also enjoyed baking wedding cakes and collecting antiques. Carol had a large group friends who enjoyed coffee and conversation together. Above all, Carol was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who cherished time spent with her beloved family.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Johnson; three sons: Dale (Marlene), Kevin (Diane) and Kyle (Elizabeth) all of Negaunee; her daughter, Sherry (Richard) Dahlin of Marquette; three sisters: Jean Lund, Suzanne (Bill) Verhelst, and Lynn (Brad Blight) Potila; six grandchildren: Dawn (Mark) Evans, Brandin (Jennie) Johnson, Rachel (Bob) Pizziola, Daniel Dahlin, Brianna (Eric) Lynch and Jayda Johnson; seven great-grandchildren: Aiden, Jarin, Brady, Claire, Tony, Abby and Mary; five step-grandchldren: Jennifer (David) Emard, Ann (Stephan) Valenti, Tina (Brian) Ingram, Christopher (Rachel) King and Robert (Krystal) Stapleton; 12 step- great-grandchildren; two step- great- great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, George Walimaa, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Dennis Potila and Fred Lund; and father and mother-in-law, Ellsworth (Sue) Johnson.

Carol’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the amazing staff at the Trillium House for their compassionate care.

Honoring Carol’s wishes, private graveside services will be held at the Negaunee Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at later date, and will be announced by the Koskey Funeral Home. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Carol’s memory to The Trillium House, or Marquette Hope United Methodist Church.
