Brett Harriman

MARQUETTE, MI – Brett Harriman, 40, died July 21, 2021.During his earthly life Brett felt most at home when exploring the forest on hikes with his family. Brett utilized his playful nature and fantastical mind to make the forest come alive for his children. They were delighted by the scenarios their dad created for them as he transformed ordinary hikes into grand adventures. Brett’s passion for the outdoors extended to paddling the waters of Northern Michigan and biking its extensive trails. He also enjoyed family trips to national parks here in the states and visits to overseas destinations. Born in Carson City, Michigan, Brett grew up in Gowen, graduating from Greenville Senior High School in 1999. He continued his studies at Northern Michigan University earning honors as an applied science major. Brett was a member of the United States Army, serving as a crew chief on a CH-47 helicopter in Iraq and Afghanistan. Brett continued using the skills he learned in the Army in his career as an aircraft mechanic with Envoy Air.Brett communicated in a way that helped people understand new perspectives and appreciate differing points of view. He possessed in-depth knowledge of military history. Early in his adult life there was a light within Brett that was appreciated by friends and family. Over the years depression dimmed this inner light and changed him. The disease contributed to his choice to end his own life. Brett is survived by his wife; Hannah Harriman, children; Isaac and Betty Harriman, parents; Gary Harriman (Connie) and Karen Rieckman (Paul), step-sisters; Melissa Rieckman and Jenny Kouba, and grandparents; Richard and Betty Harriman.
