Nelson “Nels” Lyke

CHAMPION, MI – Nelson “Nels” Lyke, 84, of Lake Michigamme, rode off on a journey by bicycle, for places known only to him, on July 31, 2020, after a long battle with CHF. He had his harmonica and cherished spirit drum with him. His wife, Gini and family will miss him terribly and adore him. He is the family storyteller with his tales of Brother Bear and Marie the Ferret. He always had a beautiful garden and would wait patiently for the first week in June to plant it. The yard was filled with flowers and the house was filled with candles and love. He was a gentle loving soul and will leave a vast emptiness in our home. Nels and Gini were married for 31 years and between them they have 5 children: Kirsten, Karin (Les Luder), and Stephen Lyke, and Jennifer Olsen (Chris Pickard) and Erika Olsen Potila (Brad). He had 10 grandchildren: Samantha, Sabrina, Lehomm, Eli, Ivy, Ezra, Olivia, Tristen, Norah Mae, and Jonah. He had 2 beloved great-grandchildren: K’eon and Arianna. He is also survived by his sister: Lynn Beasley (Chet), of Crystal Springs MS. Nels requested no funeral but wanted a memorial party with lots of music. We will be celebrating his life at the family camp on Lake Michigamme, on Saturday, August 7th, starting at 2pm. The ceremony will start at 3p. We will have music that he picked out, music that Gini picked out and live music by people who loved him. Bring a dish to pass if you wish but it is not necessary, and a lawn chair if possible. There will be streamers guiding you from the highway through Michigamme Shores Campground and on to the camp. Please drive no more than 10 mph when you get off the highway.
