Peter Bloukos

MARQUETTE, MI – Peter Bloukos, age 92, passed peacefully in his sleep on May 10, 2021. He was a resident of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans. Peter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence Froney Bloukos, his daughters, Loren Blake, Andrea Bloukos and her husband Mike Billingsley, his grandchildren Kelly Sprouse, Sam Billingsley, Bailey Tucker, and Nikki Lazarski, and his brother George Bloukos and his family.

Peter was drawn to the entertainment business when he was very young, living in Brooklyn, New York. After his service to his country as a combat medic and purple heart recipient during the Korean war, he happily returned home to pursue a career in entertainment. Peter was employed by CBS in New York City and spent many years entertaining people and making great friendships in the business while doing stand-up comedy and tap dance performances in the greater New York area. Peter eventually left the entertainment world for a job on Wallstreet where he became a successful bond and securities trader.

While continuing his career as a trader in Houston, Texas, Peter became involved with the Exchange Club and volunteered his time raising funds for children from the School For The Deaf and chaperoning those with disabilities to local events such as baseball games. He also established a golf program for children from the inner-city, and with donations from fellow golf friends, and in partnership with local golf courses, presented hundreds of young children with the opportunity to be introduced to the game of golf.

After Peter retired in 1996, he and his wife Florence choose to find a home in Marquette, Michigan. This is where he shared his love of skiing and became a downhill ski instructor for the “Never Evers” at Marquette Mountain, where his big personality and unmatched kindness could be fully expressed. Peter also loved golf and was an integral part of the Junior Golf Program at the Marquette Golf Course. After 15 years of volunteering, with his Brooklyn-style of teaching, the program honored him with the Peter Bloukos Volunteer of the Year Award in 2008. This award has been given to the most deserving volunteer each year thereafter.

The family has arranged for a visitation at St. Michael Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Friday, July 2, 2021 with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 am. A celebration of life at Presque Isle Pavilion will be held that evening at 7:00 pm where the family looks forward to welcoming his friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to the Gary Sinise Foundation (www.garysinisefoundation.org), as Peter was passionate about his support for veterans.

Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting the Bloukos family.
