Mary Stanaway

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP, MI – Mary Elizabeth Stanaway, 91, of Negaunee Township, passed away peacefully at home early Saturday morning, May 8, 2021, in the care of her loving family.

Mary was born August 17, 1929, in Negaunee, to Nicholas and Pauline (Dallas) Picciano, attended Negaunee St. Paul High School, and was a lifelong Negaunee resident.

Aside from being a loving and devoted homemaker, Mary was selfless with providing care for numerous community members and also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul. She enjoyed feeding and watching the deer and critters in her yard and the many rides to Presque Isle to watch boats on the horizon. Most importantly, she loved and cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol (Robert) Rowe of Negaunee; five grandchildren: Michelle (Erik) Granger, Michael (Katie) Rowe, Diane Fernandez, Theresa (Joey) Wright and Stephen Henry; 10 great-grandchildren: Mason and Carter, Jake, Giana, Mia, Ella and Adalina, and Stephanie, Jonathan and Ava; daughter-in-law, Kathy Henry; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Mary Margaret Peterson and Jackie Jachim.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Denzil Stanaway; son, Dennis Henry; brother, Joseph Picciano; sister, Caroline Carlstrom; and her fur baby kitty cat, Lucky.

Honoring Mary’s wishes, private family services will be held.
