Don Michael Tickler

GWINN, MI – Don Michael Tickler, 72, of Gwinn, died Saturday morning, May 8, 2021, at UP Health System – Marquette following an illness.

He was born March 16, 1949, in Menominee, MI, a son of the late Rupert and Elizabeth (Backman) Tickler.

Don worked at LE Jones in Menominee, MI, before opening and operating his own machine shop. An automobile accident left him with a disability and unable to continue with the shop. Years later he did return to work at Crossroads Trucking in Sands Township.

Don battled with alcoholism for years before regaining his sobriety. With the help of AA and a fellowship of good friends he celebrated 40 years of sobriety.

He met Jacalyn Laux in 1985 and the couple married on October 11, 1986 in Marquette.

His interests included woodworking and working on cars.

Don will be remembered by his friends and family for having a big, kind heart. A friend had said, “Don is up there with his smile and silliness and having everyone smiling in Heaven”.

He is survived by his wife, Jacalyn Laux of Gwinn; brothers, Thomas (Mary) Tickler and Raymond (Nancy) Tickler, both of Menominee; special niece and nephew, Rachel Tickler & Chris (Shawna) Tickler, both of Menominee; mother & father-in-law, Jack and Donna Laux of Atlantic Mine, MI; brother’s & sister’s-in-law, Denise (Rich) Hudson of Halfway Location, MI, Tony ( Betsy) Laux of Chassell, MI, John (Dana) Laux of Greenville, SC, Steve (Brenda) Laux of Chassell and Michelle Tickler of Menominee, MI; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends; and beloved cats, Buddy and Buttons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sue (Warren) Tetalff; brother, Richard Tickler; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Don’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and hospice staff at UP Health System – Marquette for the care they provided.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021, from 12 noon to 1 pm, at Canale-Gwinn Funeral Home and Cremation Services. A memorial service will follow at 1 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Randy Saatio.
