David R. Jones
ISHPEMING, MI – David R. Jones, age 78, of Ishpeming, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021, at his home in Ishpeming, while in the loving care of family and friends and the U.P. Home Health and Hospice.
David was born in Ishpeming on November 15, 1942, son of the late Edith H. (Glanville) and John V. Jones. He was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, Class of 1961 and then attended NMU. David served in the U.S. Army, from 1962 to 1965, having been stationed in Korea from 1964 – 1965. David worked as a blaster at for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 30 years and 10 days, retiring in 1997. While at Cliffs he worked underground for 10 1/2 years at the Mather B and then surface mining at the Republic, Tilden, and Empire Mines.
David was a longtime member of the Wawonowin Country Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie of his many golfing friends. He was also a member of the American Legion Greenwood Post 114 and the Ishpeming Elks Lodge #447. David enjoyed spendi
ng the winter months in Lake Havasu, AZ.
David is survived by his companion Alicia Moore of Lake Havasu, AZ, stepchildren – Gary, Richard, Robert, Tina, Paul, Joe, nieces, and nephews, along with many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Jones in 1990 along with two brothers and a sister.
Per David’s wishes, cremation will take place, and a private memorial gathering will be held.
