Sharon Tincknell

NEGAUNEE, MI – Sharon Louise Tincknell, 76, of Lake St., Negaunee, passed away peacefully at home, Saturday evening, April 17, 2021, under the care of her loving family and UP Home Health & Hospice.

Sharon was born May 28, 1944, to Emil and Irene (Pelki) Holmi. She was the third of six children and grew up in Midway Location.

She married her husband, Jerry Tincknell, in 1960 and they welcomed three sons, Dale, Darryl, and Terry. They settled in their longtime home on Lake Street in Negaunee, where she lived for 55 years. She worked as a nurse’s aide early on and dedicated herself to earning her GED in 1979, something she was deeply proud of. When Jerry took over the family dairy distribution business, Sharon did much of the office work. They would hand down Tincknell Distributing to their eldest son.

Sharon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. She was profoundly proud of her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to talk, tell stories, and laugh. She will be remembered for her blue eyes, bright easy smile, and sense of humor – she never tried to be funny, and yet she always was. It was comfortable to hold a conversation with Sharon and she was genuinely interested in all the details of your life. Some of her favorite memories were traveling with her son to Florida, Tennessee, Boston, Las Vegas, and New York. She enjoyed the casino. She loved her knickknacks, old valentines, Christmas village, small soaps that were not to be used, pets belonging to anybody else (she cherished animals), and all sorts of treasures. She was young at heart, laughed easy, and had many mannerisms that her family loved to mimic, most especially her dismissive “Aaagghhhhh” with the wave of a hand – it was her most endearing trait. She was lovingly called “Swammi” by her dear son Terry. She was also referred to as the “Bird Lady” by all who loved her. She ate a bag of Halls cough drops every day and absolutely loved her black coffee (she would drink it any hour of the day or night).

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Tincknell in 2007; and brothers, John and Don Holmi. She is lovingly remembered by her three sons, Dale (Diane Makela), Darryl (Susan Ulvila), and Terry (Kim Ricketts); her sister, Alice (Tom) Anderson; two brothers, Fred (Faye) Holmi and Michael Holmi; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Holmi, Charlene Holmi, Gorda Schuettpelz, Patty (Jim) Reichel, and Linda (Robin) Trembath, a brother-in-law, Wayne (Kelly) Greenleaf; eight grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Reichel, Lisa Tincknell, Allyson (Bryan) Solander, Ryan Tincknell, Kyle Tincknell, Hank Tincknell, Vince Tincknell, and Zoey Tincknell; five great-grandchildren, Ayla Reichel, Arya Reichel, August Solander, Nora Reichel, and Margo Solander. She also had many close and special nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends, especially Kathy Brown, Betty Bellmore, Patsy Taskila, Katie Tincknell, and her beloved mother-in-Law, Florence Greenleaf.

Sharon will also be missed by her very special pet birds and constant companions, Cleo and Buddy. No birds have ever been more loved.

The family will greet relatives and friends from, 11:00 am until 12:30 pm, on Monday, April 26th at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In accordance with COVID precautions, please wear a face mask. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to UPAWS.org or StJude.org in honor of Sharon’s love for animals and children. Her memorial page may be viewed at koskeyfuneralhome.com.
