Clyde Legacy

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, MI – Clyde Legacy, 89, of Wildwood Dr., Chocolay Twp., passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, March 31, 2021, at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

Clyde, also known as ‘Leggie,’ was born November 3, 1931, in Ishpeming, to Clyde and Rose (Youren) Legacy and was raised in Deer Lake. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1952 until 1960. Following his service to his country, he worked as a maintenance repairman for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company, retiring from the Empire Mine in 1992 after 42 years of service.

Leggie was a lifetime member of American Legion, Post #44, Marquette. As a young man, he loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an expert woodsman, proud to have built his own camp on the Dead River Basin.

Leggie married, Cecelia (Versailles) Crowley, on October 12, 1974 and enjoyed 39 years of marriage. Most of their spare time was spent with family. They had many good times at their home in Harvey, their camp near Little Lake, and visiting family on Little Shag Lake. Leggie and Ceil shared a very special love and admiration for each other.

Leggie was a compassionate, hard-working and honest man. If you needed his help, he was there. When discussing various topics, you clearly knew his opinion. He loved to tell stories about events at the mine and the men he worked with. His memory was sharp, and could recall events of many years ago with great detail. Leggie was a very talented and interesting man.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his loving wife, Cecelia M. Legacy in September, 2013.

Honoring Clyde’s wishes, no public services will be held. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
