Sandra (Morrill) Neibaur

MARQUETTE, MI – Sandra (Morrill) Neibaur, age 86, died at Mill Creek Senior Living, in Marquette, on March 22, the inevitable end to her long battle against Alzheimer’s disease.

Sandra was born in Thompsonville, Michigan, on March 10, 1935. She graduated from high school in Traverse City, and attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where she met and married her beloved husband, Gene Neibaur, in 1955. They moved to Marquette in 1957, where Sandra earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northern Michigan University while raising a family of three children. Sandra loved her career as the head librarian at Marquette Senior High School.

Summers gave her family the opportunity to camp and travel extensively through the U.S. Sandra and Gene enjoyed cross-country skiing, canoeing, Cotillion, and their RV excursions. Post-retirement, Sandra and Gene traveled extensively but were always happy to return home to Marquette and the First Presbyterian Church. After Gene died of cancer in 2001, Sandra eventually began to travel again, exploring Russia, the Middle East, Turkey, and more of Europe. She purchased a winter home and spent many winters as a snowbird with good friends in southeast Florida. In later years, she and special friend, Robert Yuill, enjoyed activities together including hiking, dining out, and attending concerts. Sandra volunteered tirelessly for the Marquette County Alzheimer’s Association for many years, and was an active member and librarian for the First Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, a sister in the P.E.O. and regularly met with a cherished group of friends and retired fellow educators.

Surviving Sandra are her son; Tom, wife; Nancy and granddaughter; Danielle, son; Ken and husband; Adam Mann, and daughter; Jill, husband; Leonard Olson and granddaughters; Lauren and Kara.

Thank you to all of the compassionate caregivers and medical providers who supported and cared for Sandra.

Plans for a memorial service during the summer will be announced later. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are kindly asked to consider The Alzheimer’s Association, 3224 US Highway 41 West, #180, Marquette, MI 49855 or the First Presbyterian Church, 120 N.
